Recently described epiphytic species. It is found as a pioneer in species-poor lichen communities, usually on a smooth acidic bark with a predominant cover of non-symbiotic algae in various types of shady and open forests. A toxicity tolerant species. Quite often it is found in localities, where the effect of previous air pollution is still remarkable. It can theoretically be a lichen that has spread in recent decades. To date, this species is known only from Europe, mainly from its western part.
