Atrodiscus fagicola Malíček, Palice & Vondrák

A newly described saprophytic fungus or semi-lichen belonging to the order Sclerococcales. It forms an indistinct or very thin thallus, black, sessile to slightly constricted ascomata 0.1–0.2 mm in diameter, dark excipulum with Hypnorum-blue pigment, almost colourless to brown hypothecium, brown epihymenium and 1(–3)-septate colourless ascospores 9–11 × 4–5 μm in size.

This species is so far known only from the Czech Republic, where it has been collected from several forest localities at middle to submontane elevations. Most records are from beech, but it may occur on other trees or decaying wood. Typical habitats are trunk bases and acidophilous species-poor communities. It prefers older trees and old-growth forest stands, but several records come from managed forests (Vondrák et al. 2024).
