Circinaria contorta (Hoffm.) A. Nordin, Savić & Tibell

A calciphilous lichen that grows on various types of calcareous substrates. It colonises natural and anthropogenic habitats in early or later stages of succession. Circinaria contorta prefers sunny sites. It is a common species in Europe and the Czech Republic. Its distribution in our country is limited by the availability of suitable substrates. In the recent past, the occurrence of a similar species, C. hoffmanniana, was often reported under this name.
