A non-lichenized pyrenocarpous fungus, often studied by lichenologists. It resembles the species Naetrocymbe punctiformis from which it differs in submuriform spores. It grows on twigs of various deciduous trees (such as aspen and beech). Recently, it has been reported from beech twigs near Jince and in Žofínský prales. Probably it is a relatively common, but overlooked species.
