An inconspicuous lichen of a similar appearance as G. fagicola and G. carneola, but linked solely to the best-preserved, mainly beech old-growth forests. In the Czech Republic, it has recently been reported only from four localities, from the Šumava, Moravskoslezké Beskydy and Český les Mountains. Three of the records come from old beeches with a higher bark pH, one from an old Acer pseudoplatanus.
