A little known Lecidea, probably belonging to the problematic group L. plana/lithophila. The species was first reported from the Czech Republic from small basaltic stones in few localities in northern Bohemia (Anders 1922). Later it has been recorded also on gneiss and mica-schists in the Krušné hory Mts (Servít & Klement 1933, Anders 1936) and Šumava Mts (Hilitzer 1929). Nádvorník (1951) was the last who reported this species from the country, although as a variety of L. lithophila, from the Jizerské hory Mts. Beside the Czech Republic, the species has been reported from Germany, Slovakia and Ukraine. However, in the identification key to the European members of Lecidea s. str. the lichen is missing (Hertel 1995). Its taxonomic status in unclear and requires further study.
