An epiphytic Physcia species, similar to the more common P. stellaris, distinguished by conspicuous white spots on the thallus surface and medullary chemistry (K+ yellow). It primarily grows on deciduous tree bark with higher pH. It prefers light stands, open landscapes or treetops in forests. The lichen is widely distributed in Europe, mainly in the southern part. In the Czech Republic, it is scattered from lowlands to mountains.
