Porina byssophila (Körb. ex Hepp) Zahlbr.

An inconspicuous microlichen that can be reliably distinguished from the common species P. aenea mainly in the KOH reaction of the involucrellum: in this species it turns blue-grey, whereas in P. aenea any blue tinge is completely absent. It typically grows on moist and shaded basic rocks. Recently, however, it has been shown to be frequent also on tree bark, where it was probably overlooked for a long time. Most records from the Czech Republic come from the smooth bark of beech and hornbeam, and it is also common on Acer. In general, P. byssophila prefers low to mid elevations, from which most records originate. Until recently it was considered rare in the Czech Republic and was published only from the Moravian Karst and the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains (Peksa 2008, Bouda et al. 2019). More recent findings, however, indicate that it is much more widespread, for example also within the city of Prague.
