Rinodina griseosoralifera Coppins

A sorediate Rinodina with characteristic blue-green to blue-grey discrete soralia on small scattered areoles. Apothecia are very rare, they have a proper thalline margin and Pachysporaria-type spores (strongly thickened cell wall in all the parts). It occurs on the bark of deciduous trees, often at locally nutrient-enriched parts, such as spots washed by water transporting nutrient from higher parts of the trunk. Most commonly, it is found on sycamores, but often also on older goat willows or aspens. The species grows in half-open and open forests or on solitary trees, commonly on trunks, more rarely also on branches (usually on the thickened bark near the branching). In the Czech Republic, it prefers mountain areas rich in rainfall (e.g., the Šumava and Beskydy Mts). The records from lower elevations are unverified.
