Sarcogyne regularis is common in Europe and North America and occurs on calcareous rock and even anthropogenic substrates such as concrete and walls at a wide range of elevations and usually in full sun. Sarcogyne regularis s. str. has apothecia not usually wider than 1 mm with pruinose disc with a black lecideine margin ca. 50 μm wide. It is common in the Czech Republic. Five varieties or forms have been reported from the Czech Republic and these need to be revised.
