This species from the X. pulla complex is characterized by a predominance of divaricatic acid over stenosporic acid, whereas in X. pulla s. str. the ratio is reversed (Elix 2002). Morphologically, X. perrugata usually has a markedly rougher upper surface than other members of this complex (Giordani 2003). However, this character has not yet been observed in Czech material. The vegetatively reproducing X. verruculifera, which often occurs at the same sites, shows the same chemical profile as X. perrugata.
The distribution of X. perrugata is still poorly known. To date, the only published record from the Czech Republic comes from a granite outcrop in the Drbákov–Albertovy skály National Nature Reserve. However, revision of Czech collections of the X. pulla group revealed additional vouchers from the country (Kantnerová, Lajblová & Malíček, unpubl.).
