Absconditonia rubra (van den Boom, M. Brand & Suija) Suija & van den Boom

Recently described epiphytic species, which is the type species of the genus (Suija & van den Boom 2023). Its tiny reddish apothecia are usually invisible to the eye and are often only revealed under high magnification. It is found as a pioneer in species-poor lichen communities, usually on a smooth acidic bark with a predominant cover of non-symbiotic algae in various types of shady and open forests. A toxicity tolerant species. Quite often it is found in localities, where the effect of previous air pollution is still remarkable. Absconditonia rubra is currently regarded as a semilichen (Vondrák et al. 2022) that has spread probably in recent decades. To date, this species is known only from Europe, mainly from its western part.
