This species containing gyrophoric acid is very characteristic with cross-hatched thallus with fissures and thick cortex. Some Arctic and Central Asian species, such as A. scrobiculata, have a similar appearance. The cracked surface of the areoles may represent an adaptation to extremely xerothermic conditions. This is because it is a species associated with the sunniest and probably most rapidly drying exposed andesite rocks. So far, it is known only from the type locality at Týřov (Vondrák et al. 2022), where it occurs in several microlocalities.
