Acarospora sinopica is a widely distributed species in Europe and occurs in North America. In the Czech Republic it is a scattered species and occurs up to at least 1500 m on iron-rich siliceous rock in full sun. The species is known both from natural and anthropogenic substrates, such as heaps and dumps. It has rusty colored areoles with punctiform apothecia (mostly 0.2–0.3 mm wide) and a high hymenium (120–170 µm).
