Arthothelium spectabile Flot. ex A. Massal.

A rare epiphytic species characterised by whitish to greenish crustose thallus and black rounded to angulated or lobate apothecia with muriform spores. It is a thermophilous lichen with preferences to humid climate. Within Europe, its distribution is subatlantic-submediterranean. It grows on the smooth bark of deciduous trees in old well-preserved forests, e.g. floodplain forests. There are only a few historical records from the Czech Republic, particularly from the forest Království near Grygov (Kovář 1911a,b), Horní Zahrada near Kroměříž, Kunčice nad Labem in the foothills of the Krkonoše Mts and Třeboň (Cypers-Landrecy 1926). However, the records require revisions of herbarium specimens. Recently, the species has been found in the area around the confluence of the rivers Morava and Dyje in southern Moravia.
