Biatora amylacea Palice, Malíček, Vondrák & Printzen

Very inconspicuous lichen forming rounded to irregular soralia, containing soredia with blue-green pigment Cinereorufa-green, and small, bluish-grey apothecia. Amyloid (I+ dark violet) excipulum and thalline hyphae are specific for this species.

Biatora amylacea grows on smooth to slightly roughened bark of deciduous trees such as Fagus, Carpinus and Sorbus aucuparia. So far it is only known from old-growth montane temperate and boreal forests. It was described in 2023, so it has only been documented from several localities in the Czech Republic, Norway, the Russian part of the Caucasus and Ukraine. In the Czech Republic it has been collected only on beech in old-growth forest stands in Hojná Voda in the Novohradské hory Mts and Mt Ždanidla in the Šumava Mts (Palice et al. 2023).
