Bibbya vermifera (Nyl.) Kistenich, Timdal, Bendiksby & S.Ekman

A Bacidia species forming black apothecia on an inconspicuous thallus. Apothecia are microscopically well-recognisable by the brown to purple pigments and S-shaped ascospores. Bacidia vermifera prefers beeches and sycamores in open patches of old-growth forests, but it may occur also on other deciduous trees and exceptionally even on dead wood. This species with a boreo-montane distribution is rather rare in Europe. Though there are reports on its current occurrence from several localities in the Czech Republic, the lichen is still relatively rare in the country.
