A lichen with a yellow thallus and yellow pruina on sessile apothecia. Formerly, it used to be included in the genus Cyphelium. It occurs in humid open forests on bark of conifers. It is a boreal-montane element distributed in central Europe, mainly across the Alps and Carpathians. There is only a more than hundred years old report on its occurrence in the Czech Republic. It was reported from firs and spruces near the Žákova hora Hill in the Žďárské vrchy Hills (Kovář 1907). However, Nádvorník (1942) who revised Kovář’s herbarium does not mention presence of the species in the country.
