A group of two similar species, C. concolor and C. pacifica that were not distinguished from each other in the past. All the older reports may be found under the name C. concolor. The species differ in the character of thallus, lower cortex and rhizines (see e.g. Westberg & Arup 2010). Xanthoria candelaria is another similar lichen, which, however, forms a more or less shrubby thallus with a prominent K+ purple to violet reaction.
