Cladonia chlorophaea agg.

A group of scyphose species distinguished mainly based on secondary metabolites. Morphologically, they are species with coarse soredia to small granules on the podetia surface. These structures are very variable and specimens similar to C. fimbriata or C. pyxidata are not rare. Czech species belonging to the aggregate include C. asahinae, C. chlorophaea s. str., C. cryptochlorophaea, C. grayi, C. merochlorophaea and C. novochlorophaea. One more species, C. homosekikaica, might be expected to occur here too. Sometimes, C. conista and C. humilis are also included in the group. However, they form fine soredia and corticate podetial base, thus we exclude them from the C. chlorophaea aggregate.
