A species very similar to the common L. polytropa, from which it differs mainly in its narrower spores and often also by the brown apothecia. Due to the close resemblance of both species, L. stenotropa is probably partly overlooked, and its distribution remains insufficiently known. In Central Europe, however, it is most likely a rare lichen of siliceous rocks. From the Czech Republic, it has so far been published from four localities in the Příbram region, the Slavkov Forest, and Prague. In three of these cases, it occurred on iron-enriched rocks.
