Yellowish thalli of this lichen may be found on deciduous trees with higher bark pH, typically on Acer platanoides, Fraxinus and Quercus in open landscapes and in well-lit forests. Less often, the species grows on siliceous or calcareous rocks. Lepraria vouauxii is a cosmopolitan species, widespread in Europe.
