A rare, thanks to its small size possibly partly overlooked species of boreal forests (such as mountain spruce and boggy pine forests). The lichen is usually found on decaying wood of conifers in a company of other Micarea species. In the Czech Republic, it has been reported only from less than ten localities in the mountains of Šumava, Krkonoše and Hrubý Jeseník so far.
