A lichen ecologically and morphologically similar to M. polycarpella (see the species). However, it seems that M. lynceola occurs more often in localities of natural character. Besides a few records in watercourse alluvia, the species was found also on pebbles in wet microhabitats in the Velký kotel glacial cirque in the Krkonoše Mts.
