Myriospora macrophylla (H. Magn.) K. Knudsen, Pušová, & Kocourk.

Myriospora macrophylla is a large squamulose species with squamules 4–10 mm wide and a thick stipe that may overgrow other crustose lichens. Magnusson suggested that the species might be saprobic on the lichens overshadowed by its squamules. The upper surface is pale to dark brown and very uneven, with large swellings or flattened pustules. The upper cortex is 60–85 μm thick, the algal layer is discontinuous and 200–300 μm thick, and the medulla is 500–700 μm thick, with hyphae continuous with those of the stipe. Apothecia are numerous, usually 10–20 per squamule, immersed, with convex discs 0.3–0.4 mm in diameter, slightly darker than the thallus to almost blackish brown. The parathecium is distinct. The hymenium is 130–170 μm high; paraphyses are thin and not capitate. Asci are narrow and contain small ascospores measuring 3–4 × 1.4–1.7 μm. The subhymenium is very distinct.

The species was originally described as Acarospora smaragdula f. macrophylla from a single collection made by A. Hilitzer in the Czech Republic, in the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains. It was collected in 1925 on gneiss at the summit of Mt Keprník (1424 m) and has not been observed there since. At the type locality, only M. hilitzeri has been found recently.

A similar species is M. hilitzeri, which differs in having smaller areoles (1–4 mm wide) and fewer apothecia (1–4, rarely up to 10).
