The smallest Phaeophyscia species in the Czech Republic, characterized by small lobes with marginal isidia. It can be found on the bark of deciduous trees and rock substrates, mainly calcareous, both natural and anthropogenic. It prefers nutrient-rich and open stands. The lichen is also common within nitrophilous communities. In Europe as well as in the Czech Republic, it is an abundant and widely distributed species, found from lowlands to mountains.
