A crustose lichen with a conspicuous large rounded lobate sulphur-yellow thalli; its lobes and apothecia are more or less flat. In the Czech Republic, it had been recorded in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century as Acarospora oxytona from lower elevations near Prague (Suza 1942). It has isolated localities at the Týřovické skály rocks in the Křivoklát region and at Milá in the České středohoří Hills. It is absent from southern Moravia but has a couple of localities in the Danube valley near Krems an der Donau (Suza 1947). Currently, it is common in certain continental areas of northern Eurasia and probably represents a glacial relic in central Europe, occurring on hard siliceous xerothermic rocks.
