An arctic-alpine terricolous crustose species, recognizable thanks to its pale, relatively thick thallus (Pd+ orange spot reaction due to the pannarin content) and convex black glossy apothecia with a disappearing margin. It grows on bare soil and bryophytes on persistently humid stands, such as mountain springs, snow fields etc. There is only a couple of historical records from the Czech Republic, specifically from the highest parts of the Krkonoše and Hrubý Jeseník Mts. The species was collected for the first time by J. Flotow from the top part of the Sněžka Mt, as one of type specimens of Lecidella borealis (Koerber 1855), which is a later synonym of P. limosa. The latest well-specified published record is from Červená hora Mt (as Studénkova hole) in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts (Suza 1913). Later it was recorded in the Krkonoše by Kuťák (1923), but the locality and collection date were not specified. Recently, it has been collected in hardly accessible parts of the Studniční stěna wall in the Úpská jáma glacial cirque (Palice 1998).
