Psoroglaena neglecta Vondrák, Malíček & Palice

A very inconspicuous, sterile lichen with an endophloedal thallus immersed in the bark. On the surface it forms minute, punctiform to confluent, pale green to grey-green “soralia”. In the field it is virtually indistinguishable from some species of Bacidina (and possibly other sorediate lichens), and therefore identification should be verified using DNA.

Psoroglaena neglecta grows on nutrient-rich bark of deciduous trees, often for example on Sambucus nigra, usually at the bases of trunks. It has also been recorded on wood and may overgrow bryophytes as well. It occurs from lowlands to mountains in managed as well as old-growth forests, including forest edges. According to environmental DNA data, it is a widespread and probably common species across forest habitats, except in montane spruce forests.
