A sorediate Rinodina with characteristic green-beige discrete soralia on small scattered areoles. Apothecia are rare, with proper margin and Physcia-type spores (thickened cell wall near the septum and in the apices). It grows on nutrient-rich tree bark (e.g., on beech, maple, ash and oak), only exceptionally on acidic bark of coniferous trees. The species is mostly recorded on trunks, but may also grow on branches. It prefers well-lit stands in various forest types from the lowlands to the mountains. In the Czech Republic, it is locally abundant in the southern part. However, because it is usually sterile, it is undoubtedly overlooked.
