Scoliciosporum curvatum is a miniature foliicolous (growing on evergreen leaves) lichen. In the Czech Republic, it mainly colonizes the needles of spruces and firs, often on the lower branches of younger trees in the understory. Such needles often give the impression of being covered with dark dust. The species has been known from our area only recently (Palice 1999), it probably started spreading after desulphurisation of power stations. It is an overlooked species, occurring mainly in forested areas with appropriate microclimatic conditions, mainly in mountain and sub-mountain areas.
