Sporastatia polyspora (Nyl.) Grummann

Sporastatia polyspora resembles a brown Rhizocarpon species and it also belongs to Rhizocarpales. It is distinguished by polysporic asci with minute unicellular spores and by the presence of gyrophoric acid (C+ red). Its thallus surface is grey, sometimes bluish or brownish, not shiny.

Its distribution is arctic-alpine. It grows on exposed surfaces of acidic silicates, preferring vertical to slightly overhanging surfaces. In central Europe, the species occurs only above the upper treeline. In the Czech Republic, it has recently only rarely been recorded in the Krkonoše Mts and Hrubý Jeseník Mts.
