Carbonea distans (Kremp.) Hafellner & Obermayer

A lichenicolous lichen, obligately associated with the crustose species Orphniospora mosigii, which forms large dark crusts on hard exposed siliceous rocks in high mountains. The pale coloured thalli of C. distans, composed of large areoles with black, often grouped, apothecia, form contrasting islands on its host, whose areoles and apothecia are much smaller. Carbonea distans has arctic-alpine distribution, similar to its host. It was historically known from the Krkonoše Mts, current records are missing.
