One of the commonest lichens of the Czech Republic with a wide ecological amplitude. It grows on bark of any wooden plants, often also on decaying wood, acidic hummus, bryophytes and polypores. It is an acidophilous species, very tolerant to air pollution and intensive forest management, hence it is one of the dominant lichens at tree bases in shady managed forests. Coenogonium pineti is widespread throughout the Czech Republic and almost entire Europe. Its range primarily covers the Northern Hemisphere.
