Cryptodiscus neglectus Palice & Vondrák

Thallus endoxylic or epixylic, membranaceous, forming green patches around the apothecia and associated with algae of Coccomyxa morphology. Apothecia are usually up to 0.5 mm in diameter, initially immersed in the wood, and lack internal pigmentation. The surface of the exciple is often obscured by colourless crystals that glow bright white in polarized light and dissolve in KOH and HNO₃. Ascospores have 3–7 transverse septa.

Cryptodiscus neglectus grows on soft, water-soaked decaying conifer wood, usually on surfaces sheltered from direct rain (vertical or overhanging sides of stumps and logs). In the Czech Republic it is so far documented from three localities in the Šumava Mountains (Blanice canyon, Mrtvý luh, Malá Niva). According to environmental DNA data, the species is more frequent at mid and higher elevations. Its overall distribution is unknown because the species was described only in 2024. Outside the Czech Republic, this semilichen has also been reported from Austria.
