A rare mountain species, linked to wet, Ca-enriched silicates. From the Czech Republic, it is known from the beginning of the last century. It was collected by A. Hilitzer in the Velký kotel corrie in the Krkonoše Mts (Vězda 1958) and by A. Vězda in the Velká kotlina glacial cirque in the Jeseníky Mts (Vězda 1960). Another population from Studénkova hole, which was originally published under this name (Vězda 1960) and included also in an exsiccate by Vězda (1964), was later assigned to the newly recognised species Gyalecta sudetica (Vězda 1965). Recently, G. kukriensis has been confirmed again in Velká kotlina.
