Gyalecta sudetica was described based on a rich material collected by A. Vězda from basic schist outcrops in Studénkova hole in the Jeseníky Mountains (Vězda 1965). Originally, the findings had been published, including an exsiccate, under the name G. kukriensis (Vězda 1960, 1964). Its overall appearance and ascospores resemble the rare G. kukriensis. However, G. sudetica differs mainly in the inner structure of excipulum (Vězda 1965). Recently, the lichen has been confirmed in its locus classicus. It grows there in a relatively vital population together with the common species G. jenensis (Bouda et al. 2019). The relation between populations of morphologically similar G. kukriensis in the Velká kotlina corrie and G. sudetica in Studénkova hole requires further detailed studies on both morphological and molecular level.
