A taxon closely related to G. fritzei, differing in its ecology (calciphyte) and also by minor differences in the fruiting bodies´ anatomy. The occurrence of this species in the Czech Republic is uncertain and if not confirmed by a revision of the relevant material, the lichen should be removed from the Czech list in the future. The only source (Vězda 1958), listed in the Catalogue of Lichens of the Czech Republic (Vězda & Liška 1999), mentions Czech localities only for the species G. fritzei (as Gyalecta lecideopsis var. fritzei).
