A little known Lecidea species from the group around L. lapicida (amyloid medulla, content of stictic/norstictic acid), described from acidic rocks in warmer parts of Austria (Zahlbruckner 1902). The differences between this species and L. lactea to which it was compared in the description are not entirely obvious. For example, the monographer of the group Hertel (1955) does not mention this taxon at all in its European key to genus Lecidea s. str. However, in Austria it is an accepted taxon (Hafellner & Türk 2016). Using the current criteria, specimens matching description of A. Zahlbruckner would probably be identified as L. lactea, or as a chemotype of L. lapicida (a form or variety pantherina).
Lecidea baumgartneri has been reported only from Mt Sněžka from the Czech Republic, from where it was described as a new form athallina (Eitner 1911), and from the valley of the river Oslava. Material from the latter locality corresponds to Zahlbruckner’s specimen (Nádvorník 1961).
