Peltigera membranacea (Ach.) Nyl.

A robust Peltigera that may be easily mistaken, for example, for a fertile form of the common P. praetextata. Typical features of the species are the brush-like rhizines and the narrow, elevated veins. The species grows on mossy rocks, tree bases and soil. It is a suboceanic lichen, in Europe linked to mountain areas rich in precipitation. Its distribution in the Czech Republic is practically unknown due to its uncleared taxonomy and difficult identification. It seems P. membranacea is very rare in the country, restricted only to the most humid areas. Most of the literature data could be related to the as yet formally undescribed species Peltigera neocanina.

taxonomic classification:

Ascomycota Lecanoromycetes Peltigerales Peltigeraceae Peltigera
