Physcia stellaris is an epiphyte associated with deciduous trees, typically with higher bark pH. It is heliophilic, usually found on branches. It tolerates eutrophication and often co-occurs with nitrophilous lichen species. In Europe and in the Czech Republic, it is a common species, distributed from lowlands to mountains. The rarer similar species, P. aipolia, differs in white spots on the thallus surface and K+ yellow medulla.taxonomic classification:
