A saxicolous lichen with a pinkish thallus and conspicuously pruinose apothecia. It typically grows on mineral-enriched siliceous rock overhangs and boulder screes at higher elevations, where it is easily overlooked in the mosaic of other similar species. In Europe, it is infrequently recorded and is rather rare. The species used to be repeatedly recorded in the Czech Republic (cf. Vězda & Liška 1999) but there are less than ten recent records. It was found in the Plešné jezero glacial cirque, Dračí skály rocks near Rejštejn and Šáfařův vršek in the Šumava Mts (Palice 1996, Albrecht et al. 2003, Bouda 2009), at the Kamenec hill in the České středohoří hills and during the last decade also at the Javor hill in the Lužické hory Mts, in the Ralsko region and at the hill Kleť in the Blanský les highlands.
