Rinodina atrocinerea is a non-sorediate species with extremely thickened spore cell walls (Pachysporaria type). It occurs on siliceous rocks from lower to submontane elevations. Currently, the lichen is not known in the Czech Republic, but its occurrence is plausible. There are some historical records from the 19th and the first half of the 20th century which have not been revised. It is a rare species in central Europe.
