Sarcogyne distans is a lichen from the Acarospora glaucocarpa group, where it was originally described as a form distans. It differs in having smaller apothecia 0.3–0.6(–1.0) mm in diameter and lacking the squamulose thallus compared to the 1.0–4.5 mm wide squamules of A. glaucocarpa. It is a virtually unknown lichen, so far known only from several European localities, and only described in detail by Knudsen et al. (2024). It grows on calcareous and basic rocks. In the Czech Republic, it has so far been found on limestone in the Krkonoše Mountains and the Liberec region, basalt in Bukovec in the Jizerské hory Mts and calcareous sandstone in the Broumov region.
