Sarcogyne distinguenda is characterized by a thin farinose thallus, globose to broadly ellipsoid ascospores that are often ovoid, 110–180 µm high hymenium with hemiamyloid gel (IKI+ blue to red or red). This is a little known and probably overlooked species of calcareous rocks. From the Czech Republic it is so far known only from Kaňk near Kutná Hora (Knudsen et al. 2023).
