Scytinium plicatile agg. includes three species – S. plicatile, S. schraderi and S. turgidum. Their taxonomic ranks are still unclear. Well-developed S. schraderi and S. plicatile are well-identifiable but S. turgidum represents an intermediate morphotype. It is distinguished by a different cortex structure from S. plicatile and morphologically and partly ecologically from S. schraderi. It might, however, be just an extreme morphotype or ecotype of S. schraderi.
