Typical characters of this lichen are the ±rosette-like green thallus and the involucrellum reaching to the substrate. Ecologically, it is a species of moist to inundated rocks and stones that prefers shaded habitats (Orange et al. 2023). In the Czech Republic, V. rosula has been recorded near Holubov in southern Bohemia, on shaded serpentinite and granulite outcrops along streams and on ash root swellings. There was considerable morphological variation in thalli, ranging from almost continuous and compact to conspicuously lobed specimens with very small lobes. The common character, however, was a relatively thick green thallus, which is very similar to several Agonimia species. Outside the Czech Republic, this species is known from Great Britain (Orange 2013) and Sweden (Svensson et al. 2024).
