A minute lichen producing yolk-yellow apothecia that become translucent when wet, 0.1–0.3 mm in diameter. Ascospores are submuriform to muriform. It is very similar to G. cylindrica, which has only transversely septate ascospores and grows on epiphytic bryophytes.
So far, the species is known only from the type locality near Modrava in the Šumava Mts, where it occurs on the bark at bases of trunks of old Acer pseudoplatanus trees. According to environmental DNA data, it has also been detected in the Žofín Primeval Forest in the Novohradské hory Mts.
