Usually sterile, sorediate, and easily overlooked crust, growing on deciduous trees (typically oaks) both in open landscapes and in forests (mostly lighter ones). It is characterized by the presence of atranorin and zeorin, and occasionally by an unknown yellow pigment from the pulvinic acid complex. This lichen also tolerates relatively eutrophicated habitats. Its distribution is typically subatlantic – common in Western Europe, but rare in Central Europe. From the Czech Republic it has been reported from the Třeboň region, the Soutok area, and the Berounka valley near Radnice.
